Digital Signature Algorithm

The U.S. government standard for digital signatures, as specified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, in FIPS 186, Digi-tal Signature Standard. DSA is based on signature encryp-tion based on a public and a private key. Acronym: DSA. also digital signature. or A security protocol that uses a pair of keys (one public and one private) and a one-way encryption algorithm to provide a robust way of authenticating users and systems. If a public key can successfully decrypt a digital signature, a user can be sure that the signature was encrypted using the private key.
