ScienceThe equivalent mass is molecular mass of a substance divided by the valence of that compound. Valence is determined by multiplying the valence of the positive ion in a compound by the number of atoms of that ion. NaCl has one positive sodium atom with a valence of one. 1 x 1 gives a positive valence of 1.
