Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) of 1986 was made to help communities plan for chemical emergencies. It also says that businesses have to tell federal, state, and local governments about how they store, use, and release dangerous substances. EPCRA requires that state and local governments, as well as Indian tribes, use this information to plan for and protect their communities from possible risks.
