Fiber To The X

All kinds of broadband networks that use optical fiber to provide all or part of the local loop that is used for last-mile telecommunications are called "fiber to the x" or "fiber in the loop." This is a general term for any network that does this. As fiber optic cables can carry a lot more data than copper cables, especially over long distances, copper telephone networks built in the 20th century are being replaced by fiber networks, which can carry more data than copper.
