Geostationary Lightning Mapper

The GLM instrument on the GOES–R series of satellites will provide continuous lightning detection and mapping capabilities from geostationary orbit. The lightning sensor will detect both cloud–to–ground flashes and cloud flashes with a spatial resolution of 5–10 km.
