MDF stands for various terms. Discover the full forms, meanings, and possible interpretations of MDF across different fields and industries.
MDF (Made Cut but Did Not Finish) refers to a player who qualified for the final rounds of a tournament but was unable to complete all scheduled holes. This status is commonly used in professional golf events where a secondary cut is applied after the third round or when a golfer withdraws due to injury, personal reasons, or adverse conditions after making the initial cut.
MDF often occurs when:
- A second cut reduces the field after the third round.
- A player withdraws mid-event despite making the cut.
- Weather conditions shorten the tournament, preventing completion.
Although a player earns a MDF designation, they typically receive partial prize money and ranking points, but do not continue competing in the final rounds. The designation ensures clarity in tournament records, distinguishing players who did not finish despite initially qualifying for later rounds.
