Shutdown

The process of ending operation of a system or a subsystem, following a defined procedure. A decrease in the rate of fission (and heat/energy production) in a reactor (usually by the insertion of control rods into the core). OR When production is stopped for repairs, or scheduled down turns. A feature of many Maxim ICs, typically controlled via a logic-level input, which dramatically reduces power consumption when the device is not in use.
