SI stands for various terms. Discover the full forms, meanings, and possible interpretations of SI across different fields and industries.
In particle physics, the strong interaction is the mechanism responsible for the strong nuclear force (also called the strong force, nuclear strong force or colour force), one of the four fundamental interactions of nature, the others being electromagnetism, the weak interaction and gravitation. Effective only at a distance of a femtometre, it is approximately 100 times stronger than electromagnetism, a million times stronger than the weak force interaction and 10^38 times stronger than gravitation at that range.
Stroke Index (SI) in golf refers to the ranking of holes on a course based on difficulty, used to determine how handicap strokes are applied in a match-play or stableford format. The SI is assigned to each hole, typically ranging from 1 to 18, with SI 1 being the most difficult hole and SI 18 being the easiest.
The Stroke Index ensures fair handicap distribution by allowing players to receive strokes on specific holes where they may need extra assistance. This ranking helps level the competition between golfers of different abilities, making it easier for higher-handicap players to compete against lower-handicap players in match play. SI is carefully determined by course designers and committees based on hole length, layout challenges, hazards, and scoring history.
