serial-lot item tracking OR To slit steel is simply to cut it. The most common slitter available is a pair of scissors. The slitters used in the mill have circular blades that resemble washers. These rotate as the steel passed through them. The slitters hace a payoff reel and a take up reel which pass the steel through the slitter knives. Between these two reel are two shafts,one above the steel and one below the steel.
