Tension
The force or load that produces elongation. A condition caused by the action of stretching or pulling of a component. A pulling force, such as that experienced by a cable, or in the bottom flange of a beam with a load on it. The force in pounds of kilograms on a conductor installed overhead. Too much tension on an overhead line can contribute to mechanical failure. The pulling force exerted by each end of a string is called tension.
